The Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians has named Vision Furniture, one of nine businesses receiving the award, as an “Employer of Distinction.” The award recognizes companies in the Philadelphia for having a strong commitment to a diverse workforce that competes in the global economy.

Northeast Philadelphia Businesses Named to “Employers of Distinction” List
(PHILADELPHIA, NOV. 16) – Nine local companies were recently named Employers of Distinction by the nonprofit Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians. The businesses are Cardone Industries, Dietz and Watson, Fresh Made, Hadco Metal Trading Co., Marshall’s Distribution Center, Microcision, Philadelphia Pipe Bending Co., TBS Industries, and Vision Furniture. All of the companies will be honored at the Welcoming Center’s Solas Awards on December 7, 2011 in Center City.
The Employers of Distinction award honors Philadelphia-area companies who have a strong commitment to a diverse workforce that can compete in the global economy. “We are proud of our partnership with our Employers of Distinction,” says the Welcoming Center’s Yana Chernov. “Each of these companies has shown that they are very open to work with qualified people. It doesn’t matter what country they come from, if they are work-authorized and have a strong desire to succeed.”
Established in 2003, the nonprofit Welcoming Center is an economic development organization that connects immigrants, employers and communities across the Philadelphia region. To date, the Center has served more than 8,000 men and women from 140 countries around the world, and placed more than 1,100 legally work-authorized immigrants in jobs.
The Welcoming Center’s Solas Awards event, presented by Independence Blue Cross, will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel. In addition to the 29 companies being honored as Employers of Distinction, the night’s honorees include:
- Ruth Dietz Eni, Chairwoman and “Chief Executive Momma” of Dietz & Watson, receiving the Atlas Award for Advancing Opportunity in recognition of her leadership in honoring and building upon Dietz & Watson’s rich immigrant history by providing opportunities to a new generation of hardworking and talented individuals.
- Dr. Song Li, founder of Frontage Laboratories, receiving the Realizing the American Dream Award in recognition of his personal story of hard work and determination and his entrepreneurial achievements in building a multimillion-dollar business.
- Patrick Eiding, president of the Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO, receiving the Dennis Clark Solas Award in recognition of his bold leadership and courage in supporting and advocating for all Philadelphia workers.
